Hashim, a young boy living in the neighborhoods of an affluent Hindu family that owns an elephant named Shekarankutty, is accused of stealing the tusker's golden chain. Hashim's family is shamed by the rich for the crime and they are forced to leave the village. Years later, Hashim, now a wealthy man returns to the village, only to see the once affluent family is now facing financial crisis. What happens next, forms the crux.
