In the era of American occupation in the Philippines, the story follows Teodoro Asedillo, a nationalistic school teacher who transforms into a revolutionary leader. Asedillo's unwavering belief in social justice and workers' rights leads him to challenge the oppressive system. Dismissed from his position as a police chief due to his principles, he forms the Anak Pawis movement, fighting for the rights of the oppressed.
